There he was- standing on the side of an intersection of a busy street in the metropolis. I can only see his back. I was behind him from a distance; but that didn’t stop me from noticing him. He was wearing this conspicuous-colored-jacket that as it turned out was the only jacket he wore the whole time. He has the awkward posture that you think would make him inferior. But you were wrong…I was wrong. He was almost invulnerable for someone with no plans. He was a mischief with a natural humor in his scripts. And then it’s coming back to me. This is just a movie. And his name was Joker. I was not part of his script as I was just sitting along with other hundreds of people in a dark AMC Cinema.
It was really a different experience when you watch the new Batman movie. It was creepy, unpredictable, and amazing. In one word, it was INTELLIGENT. From the very second the camera rolled, I felt I was part of the movie. I felt the gloomy afternoon when Joker made that first robbery. I was absolutely awed like how those two kids in the car were when the Bat Tumbler transformed to reveal the Bat Pod (That was the coolest thing ever!). My heart was crushed when I learned the news of the death of Lt. Gordon. I even thought “This isn’t Harry Potter. Gary Oldman is James Gordon here, not Sirius Black. You can’t just kill him in Batman!”
Originally, I was not a Batman fanatic. Christian was and has become more. I was drawn to the character that first time I saw Batman Begins. But like we all know, there were three more Batmans before Christian Bale. So why just now? Two words…. Christopher Nolan.
Christopher Nolan brought a different approach to this 1939 character of Bob Kane. He told the story in a way that people will understand (or at least try to understand) the motivation behind Bruce Wayne’s vigilante acts of heroism. In his two movies he balanced to explain the psychology of the hero’s and the villains’ behavior so that when we watch the movie, it’s like we are introduced to this person who will later on become our friend and hero or our foe. And when we learn about the villains, we begin to understand where their behavior is coming from, and that these people were not really born bad. Something from their past triggered them…pushed them to the limits…transforming them to be, Joker or Two-face if I may say so.
Aside from that, Nolan and his group gave us an in-depth affirmation that Batman is just human like us who, at some point had fears- and allowed himself to be exposed to it, and then use it to his crusade. That Batman too is vulnerable inspite of all his modern gadgets- thanks to Lucius Fox. He has a heart that was devastated from the death of his parents, and a love for Rachel Dawes that he had to put to the sides.
I could go on and on with this blog, babbling about almost anything I learned about this movie. But still it wouldn’t be enough to express the admiration that I have to the makers of the film. Truly, The Dark Knight is darker than the first. And it is the Best Batman yet! And after two hours and twenty-five minutes of indulging in the movie, the whole cinema roared an applause of satisfaction. Well, that just means that I wouldn’t be alone in my stroll to Gotham next time. I’m sure a lot of people will be doing it for themselves.
it was definitely creepy and you couldn’t expect what would come next. i’m glad you encouraged me to watch it. it was worth more than the 8 bucks and a popcorn.
i will definitely watch it again in the movie theatre. and will of course take home the dvd when it releases as it will be my last memory of Heath Ledger who challenged the other actors in the movie.
Indeed…something that you will watch over and over again jacs. I watched Batman Begins a hundred times already…and still you learn something new. While this, this is something bigger. This is more amazing!
i agree with you Manang Ror. upon seeing this flick, i also intend to watch Batman Begins again.
and btw, it didn’t occur to me that Lt. Gordon was Sirius Black until you mentioned it here in your blog. wow! he is such an actor!
all the actors in the flick did their job in making the movie different from the rest. you’re right… my hats off to Christopher Nolan!
I thought I should incorporate that trivia to a Harry-potter fan like you. Now I did get your Achilles heel….and you keep coming back to this blog to comment.
Bitaw Mita, he is a very good actor gyud sa? Oh and everyone else is. And your crush…si “The Core” guy. He is good looking. He was a hero in the making…..until…….
the casting was awesome. they handpicked it among the best. except that i don’t really like the girl who played Rachel Dawes. i profiled her from her role in the movie “Stranger than Fiction”.
and as for Aaron Eckhart, he’s just amazing! he played his part well, you can love him and then hate him instantly.
I also think so Jacs. Everyone was outstanding in their acting but Maggie Gyllenhaal. I didn’t feel her as Rachel Dawes at all. In my opinion, she was more focused on acting like Katie Holmes rather than acting for the role of Rachel Dawes. It was a pity Dawes had a big part in this sequel, but a relief too that we won’t be seeing her anymore on the next Batman (hopefully there will be another one…and another one….and another one).
i feel the same way about her Manang Ror. i was even glad that she died during the bombing. how bad of me! but i don’t like to see her face in the movie again.
rude kaayo ta uy! hehehe!
Rorie you are amazing how you took the movies in and processed them and wrote about them you need to be a movie critic. lol I LOVE YOU BABY
