The Redeem Team

In their quest to reinstate US dominance in International Basketball, the media dubbed the 2008 US Men’s Basketball Team as the Redeem Team. And during the game opener on the second day of the Olympics, the team proved to their countrymen that indeed they are there to reclaim the Gold outscoring China 101-70.

This Summer’s Olympics is just the second Olympics where I have been really paying close attention to the television set. The last time was during the Barcelona Olympics where FIBA for the first time allowed professional NBA Players to participate in the Olympics. That was a treat not only for Olympic organizers and the people of Barcelona. But more than anything else, it was a spectacle to witness even to opposing teams who wound up asking pregame photos with their U.S. opponents/idols. That’s why the name Dream Team.

Coming from a low-moral finish in the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2008 American team is ready to bring back its glorious moments. Like the past Dream Teams, this team still has the depth of the bench. These are All-Star players that you don’t see together that often. But this time, they are not here for the world to see as individuals. This is reflected in their basketball jersey where you can only see the letters USA in front, and their number at the back. Their names appeared a camouflage on top of their numbers. That is one simple act that represents selfless dedication to bring pride to their country.

The Olympics just started, and one basketball game just ended with the win of the United States. But it is still too early to tell. As the cliche’ goes, the ball is round. And like what James LeBron said, they are just taking things one game at a time. And as for us basketball fanatics, this is another spectacle of a lifetime. We will be witnessing more Alley-oops from Lebron, 3-points from Reed, great passes from Kid, pick-and-roll-Stockton-Malone trademark from Boozer and Williams (they are both Utah Players too), great shots from Kobe, and slam dunks and defense from the rest of the team. Next team to beat, Angola.

the memory of that Barcelona Olympics is still fresh in my mind. it was indeed the perfect Dream Team with all big names in it. unfortunately, they didn’t get the gold for some reason.

now with Kobe and the rest of the guys, i am hopeful that they will definitely Redeem the glory.

    nice blog post manang ror.

They grabbed the gold during the Barcelona Olympics Mita. They even continued their campaign during the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics. The team just became vulnerable, and ultimately unsuccessful during the Athens Olympics when they lost against Puerto Rico…then Lithuania…and then Argentina, ending their hope for the GOLD.

mao ba? guess my memory has failed me.

remember that in that Barcelona Olympics they had all the big stars in basketball…and everyone was just so excited to see them play together. And they delivered what was expected of them. And the gold was just an easy goal to achieve.

damn! now i can’t remember that. all i remember was me cheering for them. i really thought they didn’t manage to get the gold then.

i do hope they do bring back a medal.they have been getting jabs about not winning the last time.In Rush hour III its was even mentioned,heheh..but im sure they went there to redeem themselves and prove that they still have it..

it’s alright jacs. basta just remember those times when we felt like we were so close to the players or that we had the illusion like they know us personally. and yeah, that’s when we realize that of all the players, we love John Stockton and Karl Malone more. we have our own biases…shhh!!!!

  8. chrissaire says:

oh wow, I didn’t know there was a script in rush hour 3 that made the US team the subject of a spoof ha. thanks for the info lods.

now we are looking at a stronger team…a redeemed team who plays selflessly more for their country than their individual glory. current standing, 3-0 sweep for the Redeem team. Let’s go guys!
